Is the NATA Failing You?

The Beginning of the Disconnect

The National Athletic Trainers' Association is not failing you.

But somewhere along the way, expectations changed.

As athletic training pushed deeper into healthcare—degrees, licensure, legitimacy—many ATs started expecting NATA to function like something it was never designed to be:

➡️ A governing body

➡️ A protector

➡️ A fixer of day-to-day professional problems

At the same time, the systemic problems got harder to manage:

Burnout

Compensation gaps

Role confusion

Staffing shortages

So what happened?

We started looking up for solutions to problems that truly exist locally.

And that’s where the disconnect began.

The NATA was never designed to function as an operational arm for individual practitioners. It’s a macro-level organization—built for advocacy, standards, networking, and broad professional direction. But somewhere along the way, expectations shifted that it was supposed to be the safety net for everyone and everything organization.

It is important to get involved at the local level of athletic training to create meaningful change.
