Has anyone been tracking the changes that are happening at the National Athletic Trainers' Association? I have been trying to keep up to date through the NATA-Cast and the website, but I feel that it has created more questions rather than answers. I understand that this is an evolving project and process, but it feels like they are really squeezing the information out.

The NATA has previously faced challenges in communication strategies. Sharing important information and providing clarity is crucial especially with the current downsizing of the organization.

Questions that have come to mind while tracking this transition:

New Executive Director Search (Establishing hiring board & hire within the next 6 months)

• What type of leadership qualities and characteristics does the NATA envision from this new director that will catapult the profession?

• What qualifications are required for a director; can it be an AT?

• Could we ever compensate board members for their time and efforts?

Financials

• What other funding resources supplement the NATA if previous grants have dried up post-COVID?

• How does the NATA become more financially stable and what does that look like?

Strategic Plan Re-Evaluation Going Forward

• Do the business foundations need re-evaluation and reform?

• Is the current governance and organization model contemporary enough to meet the various backgrounds and career stages?

• Should the NATA continue to try to be all things to all ATs?

• Are there specific changes being made to NATA’s governance structure, and how will they improve efficiency?

• Are there plans to involve more members in decision-making processes?

• What checks and balances will be executed to maintain accountability?

Membership Trust and Transparency

• Is the NATA trying to pursue non-member ATs to rebuild trust?

• What measures are being taken to improve engagement and communication between members and the organization?

• How can members actively participate in shaping the future of NATA during this transition?

• Will the NATA become more present and accessible on social media?

A 2023 survey found that 78% of athletic trainers expressed a desire for more detailed explanations about new guidelines and projects from the association.

Members are not just looking for updates; they want to understand the reasoning behind each change. Promoting a two-way dialogue will cultivate a more engaged community, where everyone feels motivated to contribute to the advancement of the athletic training field.
