Make Your EAP Work for You: Building Referral Partnerships That Pay

Every weekend, athletic trainers are on the ground at tournaments, games, and community events where they are evaluating injuries, stabilizing athletes, and guiding them through the first critical moments of care.

But what happens after the event? Too often, athletes leave without a clear path for follow-up, all while local clinics miss the chance to help patients who already need them.

So why not build a solution AND get paid for your preparedness?

As athletic trainers, we already build blind EAPs (Emergency Action Plans) with local hospitals and clinics in close proximity to the event. Let’s take that same preparedness and turn it into opportunity.

Here’s how:

▪️Identify local clinics and hospitals near your PRN events.

▪️Establish a referral partnership — list them as designated follow-up providers in your EAP.

▪️Share direct booking lines or referral cards with injured athletes onsite.

▪️Build relationships that support patient care and generate referral-based income.

This model strengthens community healthcare, improves athlete outcomes, and rewards athletic trainers for their initiative and professional relationships.

It’s more than a referral — it’s continuity of care made simple.

Bringing care full circle — from the sidelines to the clinic while being compensated for the value you bring to the situation for both parties.
